Badger Herald: Fall Semester Brings New Opportunities for Students

The University of Wisconsin-Madison student-run newspaper, The Badger Herald, interviewed Dr. Cortland Dahl for their piece on the Badger Well-Being Challenge.

The University of Wisconsin-Madison student-run newspaper, The Badger Herald, interviewed Dr. Cortland Dahl for their piece on the Badger Well-Being Challenge. This Challenge is a 30-day meditation program in the Healthy Minds Program app built for incoming freshman, sophomores and transfer students at UW.

“Mindfulness meditation helps us get a little distance from our thoughts and emotions, so rather than being swept up in an emotional reaction, we can step back and observe our thoughts and feelings,” Dahl said. “It lessens the emotional charge. There’s a lot of research that shows that even in the brain it changes activity patterns, such that those ruminating thoughts do not take hold in the same way, which is why it’s one effective treatment of anxiety and depression.”

You can start training your mind with the Healthy Minds Program App, freely available thanks to the generosity of our donors wherever you get your apps.
